Daveed the Owl
So junior year of high school, after I had moved away from California to Texas, my best friend got this owl for me with I think, you know what? It had chocolates attached to it, in one of those heart boxes. It was my first time back in California since moving, and it was Valentines Day, which is why she gave me the chocolate. And we were on something that whole weekend, even though we really were not, and we were making the eyeballs talk to each other by moving the beak back and forth and I just remember feeling a pain in my stomach so intense but so wonderful from the amount of laughter that we shared. “Right eye…. Left eye…” Anyway, this has come with me everywhere that I go. Whenever I move to a new place this is what comes with me, because even though I have plenty of things to remember my best friend by—like 97% of the things in my apartment relate to her—this one is the best.
